You will receive: One Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray American Women Quarter minted at the United States Mint in San Francisco. I may charge a bit more but from my store you receive better coins! Our modern coins are purchased directly from the United States Mint and are NOT circulated or taken from bank rolls. Even so, ALL business strike or circulating coins are not perfect as marks, dings, and blemishes occur in the machine minting and shipping process.* I remove the most-unsightly coins so you wont be unpleasantly surprised. These coins have severe bag marks, gouges, dings, and blemishes. These damaged, yet uncirculated coins, can account for up to 30% of the coins I receive from the United States Mint. The chosen coins are then carefully placed with gloves in 2×2 Guardian flip holders, and shipped in strong plain envelopes to you. -Rev. Izzy About The Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray The 2024 Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter is the 11th coin in the American Women Quarters™ Program. Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray was a poet, writer, activist, lawyer, and Episcopal priest. She is regarded as one of the most important social justice advocates of the twentieth century. She fought tirelessly for civil rights, women’s rights, and gender equality. Murray was born November 20, 1910, in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Durham, North Carolina. She graduated high school at 15 and moved to New York City to attend Hunter College, where she received a B.A. in English Literature in 1933. In 1938, Murray applied to the all-white University of North Carolina but was rejected. Her case received national publicity and she gained the friendship of Eleanor Roosevelt. Two years later, Murray and a friend were arrested for sitting in the whites-only section on a Virginia bus. This incident led to her decision to become a civil rights lawyer, and she enrolled in the Howard University law program. She graduated in the top of her class in 1944. She was then awarded a prestigious fellowship at Harvard University, but after the award was announced, Harvard Law School rejected her because of her gender. Murray later earned a master’s in law at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1965, she became the first African American to receive a Doctor of Juridical Science degree from Yale Law School. Murray’s 1950 book, States’ Laws on Race and Color was distributed to law libraries, universities, and human-rights organizations. It exposed the extent and absurdity of segregation and was important to the Supreme Court case Brown vs. Board of Education. In 1966, Murray joined Betty Friedan and others to found the National Organization for Women (NOW) but later relinquished a leading role, believing the issues of Black and working-class women were not adequately addressed by the organization. She became the first Black woman to be ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1977. Murray died of cancer on July 1, 1985. Coin Information: Designed by Emily Damstra, Artistic Infusion Program Sculpted by: Joseph Menna, United States Mint Chief Engraver Depicts Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray’s eyeglass-framed face within the shape of the word “HOPE,” which is symbolic of Murray’s belief that significant societal reforms were possible when rooted in hope. A line from her poem “Dark Testament” that characterizes hope as “A SONG IN A WEARY THROAT” is featured as an additional inscription in the design. The included inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “25₵,” “THE REVEREND DR. PAULI MURRAY,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”* *United States coin images [and text] from the United States Mint. Orders placed on weekends or holidays will be shipped on the next business day. Orders over $200 require signature on delivery. eBay Standard Envelope Service: We ship many coin orders (three or less coins weighing under three ounces) in 2x2 flips using via United States Postal Service (USPS) First-Class mail using eBay Standard Envelope labels. You need to use eBay’s website software to track these envelopes. Note that these envelopes travel through the USPS network slowly. As well, note that USPS may also be slow in updating tracking information to the eBay software. High Speed Sorters: The USPS First-Class mailing system by default processes standard envelopes through high-speed sorters. This can, and does, damage coins. It also can cause other shipping issues, such as delayed delivery. If you DO NOT wish your coins to go through high-speed sorters, you can add a small additional fee ($0.58) to your purchase and we will forward this payment to the USPS for your item as a service for our customers. Your order will not be run through high-speed postal sorters while still benefiting from eBay Envelope's tracking service. This method is highly recommended by us AND meets all of the USPS requirements for sending coins though their system. If you wish this service for your order, choose "First Class" shipping at checkout. Combined Shipping Discount: We cheerfully Combine Shipping charges for all the items in your shopping cart at the time of purchase. This is done automatically for you in eBay's checkout procedure. If there is an issue combining, please message us BEFORE paying the invoice. Once an invoice is paid, we can no longer offer a Combined Shipping discount.
