Description: This gorgeous, rare 2009 Lincoln penny had extremely limited mintage. Unlike the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial copper-plated zinc coins minted in the tens of millions, fewer than 3/4 of a million of this 95% copper special series penny were minted. This was the 1st (and last) real copper Lincoln penny minted since 1982. By law it features the same copper alloy that was used prior to the copper-plated zinc one cent coins we’ve had for the last 40 years. Eminently collectible for its historical value, its beauty and its rarity, this Lincoln copper penny is a stellar addition to any Lincoln penny collection! History: The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 called for the minting of "1-cent coins with the exact metallic content as the 1-cent coin contained in 1909 in such number as the Secretary determines to be appropriate for numismatic purposes". All proof 2009 Lincoln Cents were minted in 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc. Also, all Lincoln Cents found in the 2009 Satin Mint Sets were minted in 95%copper, 5% tin and zinc. Less than 772,000 of these rare 95% copper set were sold by the US Mint.
