Description: I am offering for sale an early 19th Century Gilt Bronze French Officer's Epee Sword with checkered ebony grips. The clam shell guard contains filigree and images of flags, wreaths a helmet and a shield. The handle is made of bronze and covered in gold (gilt). This model is a variation of that shown in the authoritative book titled Epees Portees en France des Origines a Nos Jours by Jean L’hoste as figure 774 on page 411. It is in excellent condition with minor, age appropriate wear to the blade. It measures 35 1/2" long from the top of the pommel to the tip of the blade. There is no scabbard.
