Description: 1955 Ed McCurdy Folk EX LP on Riverside (The Ballad Record) Ed McCurdy - "The Ballad Record" (Riverside 601). Excellent 1955 LP by the folk singer, songwriter, and television actor who recorded multiple LPs and whose best known song was the anti-war "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream", written in 1950. For a time during the late 1950s and early '60s, Ed McCurdy was one of the most popular solo singers of the folk revival. This 1955 LP was his second. It featured 20 Broadside, British, and American ballads and was successful enough to assure future issues. Cuts include: British ballads: Sir Patrick Spens; The Three Ravens; The Twa Corbies; Get Up and Bar the Door; Son Davie, Son Davie; The Unquiet Grave; The Bitter Withy; British ballads in America: Crow Song; Black Jack Davie; William Glen; The Butcher Boy; The Poor and Single Sailor American Ballads: Springfield Mountain (Myrick type); Springfield Mountain (Molly Type); John Henry; Canada I.O.; and Naomi Wise.
