Description: A Very RARE 1950's Helvetia/H.Samuel (Double Label) in overall "Mint" condition paired with a same period NOS simulated Alligator S.S. Band! By mid-century, co-branded aka"Double Labeled" watches from a vast number of top-tier houses including Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC), Blancpain, International Watch Co. (IWC), Universal Geneve, Omega and even Helvetia had “Double Label" stamps appearing on their watches all the way from the early 1910s to the mid-1970s, and their mark adds a hint of “look closer” (to use Mayer’s famous phrase) charm to some already stunning vintage watches. Examples of “Double Label” brand names would include labels such as Turler, Tiffany and the likes of H. Samuel; Britain’s Largest Jeweler! The Vacheron, JLC and even Omega models can be quite rare and have launched upwards in High Prices. Luckily some examples of double-signed models like the Helvetia/H. Samuel: ‘Britain’s Largest Jeweler’ The multiple jeweler H. Samuel has been around for at least 140 years, and has always made extravagant claims, from ‘The Empire’s Largest Jeweler’ too ‘Britain’s Largest Jeweler’; this last boast possibly remains true today. In the mid-1800s, Moses and Lewis Samuel ran a well-known clock-making and silversmith business in Liverpool. H. Samuel is a mass-market jewellery chain, operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It is part of the Signet Group of jewellery retailers. The first H. Samuel retail store opened in Preston in 1890. By the turn of the century, H. Samuel had opened over 10 branches, and by 1914 it had about 50. To accommodate the growing business, the company moved to larger headquarters in Birmingham in 1912.
