Description: Nicely preserved paper hand fan featuring Pope Pius XI. Made by Brown & Bigelow (which still exists today and was the first to use Norman Rockwell illustrations) in St, Paul, Minnesota for the Huggins Funeral Home in Abingdon, Illinois (later became the Wiggins Funeral Home). Pope Pius XI served as pope from 1922 until his passing in 1939. Often you will see the images of popes more frequently used when they are first ordained so I'm thinking this was produced around 1922 but could have been produced at a later date but not likely later than 1939. Great condition - very good color and well-preserved vintage hand fan. The most noticeable blemishes are on the back showing some browning but that's about it. It's 18" long and 8" wide. Paper is made of a thicker material with a sturdy wood handle. The handle is stapled (staples are not rusted) and glued onto the fan. Bound to last for many decades to come.
