Description: 1913-D $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle NGC MS64+ CAC An overlooked date, that has excellent qualities and features. Collectors Universe is $7,000 This coin is from a fresh group a Gold $20’s we recently bought out of a high grade collection that had been off the market for many years. This better date is rare to find in this MS64+ CAC condition. A very small group were minted of 393,500 with many melted down and never put in circulation. This is a date most collections are missing from the Denver Mint. A NGC or PCGS MS66 would cost you $40,000 to $45,000 easy. The MS64+ CAC offered today is a nice value play under current market conditions. You won’t find a better deal for this date Created by master sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the 1913-D $20 Gold Saint Gaudens is the descendant of the $20 Liberty Double Eagle which first entered circulation in 1850. The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin. Instead, they were struck to monetize the surplus of gold and to be used exclusively in business transactions, largely between banks. Coin Highlights: NGC Encapsulation offers protection and guarantees the MS-64+ condition of the coin. The Plus (+) designation is a testament to the beautiful gem like qualities this specimen exhibits. Certified by CAC for exceptional quality for the grade. Conservatively graded in our opinion, PQ++ This is an amazing coin that’s choice for the grade. Struck at the Denver Mint Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U.S. Capitol building in the backdrop. Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background.
