Description: ~*~Hello and thank you for looking ~*~ *~ *~ I've just received my latest shipment from my last 6 buying trips to France and I'm rolling in 18th century textiles! I am as happy as happy can be as this is the time period that most speaks to my heart. This textile is from this collection. In the 18th century, there was a very high demand for colorful printed cottons for both home furnishings and dress fabrics. India had been the major importer of these washable fabrics for many years and imported at a massive rate, accelerating in the early 18th century. Soon, French entrepreneurs began to see an opportunity and by the mid to late 18th century factories in France sprung up to meet the demand! The major printing areas were " Mulhouse, Rouen, Orange, Jouy-en-Josas, Nantes and Bordeaux. The most famous of these factories was established by a man named Christoph Oberkampf , in Jouy-en-Josas, outside of Paris. Hence, the common catch-all name for these fabrics: Toile de Jouy ( cloth from Jouy) . Beautiful hand printed cottons were in full swing! This is one of the many pieces I have found on my last trips. I usually try to research each pattern before listing, however I'm too excited to share!~ Please see item details below for each listing ~*~~ Some are wood block printed some are resist and block printed, but ALL are magnificent to me, and I'm so grateful to get to bring them to you all ! They add a sense of mystique and charm like no other objects can ~*( to see all of my 18th century textiles, simply search my store for " 18th " and many wonderful textiles will appear!
