The print is archivally attached at the upper edge to of a 12.6" x 16.8" matt and comes with the original onion skin paper protective sheet as issued. This sheet states the artist name, title of the print and the print maker's name and technique used to produce the print, "negative by Braun, Clément & Cie." Gaston Braun (1845-1928) worked through a number of companies including Adolphe Braun et Cie. which was founded in 1876. Gaston went into partnership with his father-in-law Pierre-Louis Pierson (1822-1913) in 1878. Along with the assistance of Léon Clément the company grew and in 1889 took the name Braun, Clément et Cie. Their company won the Legion d' Honneur in 1891. This company continued until 1910 when the name became Braun et Cie. The company was a major supplier of reproductions of art and scenic views. The Photogravure Technique* Photogravure an intaglio printmaking or photo-mechanical process whereby a copper plate is coated with a light-sensitive gelatin tissue which had been exposed to a film positive, and then etched, resulting in a high quality intaglio print that can reproduce the detail and continuous tones of a photograph. image: 9.8" x 11.8"
