Description: 1893 P BARBER QUARTER - 90% SILVER - Circulated Ungraded Uncertified: EST G+ (You decide!)THIS COIN appears to be struck a bit off-center on the face of the coin - you decide - look at the RIM!No mint mark, so Philadelphia!Hasn't seen the light of day for over 50 years! It has not been cleaned - it was just found with a few coins at Granddad's house, this is the only one like this! It was taken out of the cardboard flip to photograph it for posting it here. You will receive the actual coin shown in the photographs! Some research I did: Mintage reported:18935,444,0231893-O3,396,0001893-S1,454,535Philadelphia - no mint mark. Designer - Engraver was Charles Barber, hence the name of the coin. There is an interesting story about them deciding where to put the mint mark! SPECS: Metals: 90% Silver - 10% Copper Diameter: 24.3 mm Mass / Weight: 6.25 grams Silver Weight: .1808 oz.The Barber Quarter, also known as the Liberty Head Quarter, was minted between 1892 and 1916. It was preceded by the Seated Liberty Quarter and was succeeded by the Standing Liberty Quarter. An 1893 Barber Quarter in poor condition (THIS IS NOT POOR - IT IS "GOOD" or BETTER) is still worth more than the intrinsic value from silver content, so is more valuable to a collector than to a silver recycler. Coins worth more to a collectors may be a better long term investment. If the metal prices drop you will still have a coin that a numismatic would want to buy. Barber quarter values start around $6 and you will find dealers marking them higher, I found them (in similar but not better condition) for over $50.00 each, and not certified! So, if you want the benefit of getting a great coin at a reasonable price and feel good that it is authentic, consider this one! It is not priced at a wholesale level just because the costs of selling would not make it worthwhile to post it in this way and the solution then, would just be to melt it down. I just can't allow a coin like this to be melted down! It's 129 years old!! Hoping it will go to a good home and collection!! Note: It has been reported (unknown source) that within the five years 1916 to 1920, over 8 MM quarters were melted (to make new coins) which wipes out a year of production "in the day". Unless it is pristine, I know some coin shops just melt them all down-it's been interesting research!
