Description: Original circa 1870's-1880's tintype photo showing a man standing next to his handmade model of what appears to be a vented tin heating unit. The man is holding a tool. The tin component of the heating unit has open windows on the side & vents on the top. In front of the tin section housed in a wooden box are two wheels & an indicator with a crank handle for activation. Perhaps he made this as a patent model since he is proudly shown with it in the photo? In any event, certainly quite a rare, interesting, & unusual subject to find on a tintype photo. Measures 3 1/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches. There are assorted minor flaws as usually found on most tintypes such as some bends & some minor surface wear from age. There is a line of wear from the man's leg on to the background. Also, there is a small scratch on the left side of the background. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades.
