Description: 1850's stampless cover from South Wilbraham, MA (in Hampden County) to Providence, RI. Unlike many we have listed for Hampden County, this cover is a proper (albeit very small) envelope (measuring 4" x 2.5"). It has a red-ink cancellation in the upper left corner clearly reading Sept. 1 (SO. WILBRAHAM, Mass.). There is a red-ink handstamp at upper right reading "PAID 3" in a circle, which pertains to the delivery fee. Unfortunately, there is no complete date to confirm the year. The cover is in excellent, clean condition. It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of early American postal history, particularly of Massachusetts, Hampden County, or Rhode Island.
